The German Reader, a collection of plays by German playwrights for young audiences, is the first book published in the Theatre Epicentre series. The Croatian translations of some of the plays were commissioned for performances in the Mala Scena Theatre in Zagreb and the Childrens Theatre in Osijek, but Das Geheimnis der Blatter and Besuch bei Kan und Fredda have been translated for the purposes of this publication. Since The German Reader is meant for artists in Central and Southeastern Europe, the texts are published both in the German original and in Croatian and, if available, English translations, in order to reach a wide audience. 1 hope that the plays will find their place on several of the Central and Souteastern European stages.
